Review: Fighting Silence by Aly Martinez

Title: Fighting Silence
Series: On the Ropes #1
Author: Aly Martinez
Publisher: Aly Martinez

Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it's the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?

I've always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine. I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn't a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.

You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.

They both happened anyway.

Now, I'm on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting for my career.
Fighting the impending silence.
Fighting for her.

Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.

I think that's the sound I'll miss the most.

Fighting Silence is Beautiful Disaster meets Maybe Someday, and we get the best of both worlds!

Our beautiful hero Till has been fighting for not only his life, but his brothers' life since he was old enough to walk. His whole life has been a struggle, every where but inside that ratty apartment where he finds Eliza, his perfect fantasy.

This book, oh my this book. I don't even know where to start. Perfect in every way! Yep, I'm serious. I can't say a single bad word about this book, nothing. It feels weird, so very weird. There is always something that bothers me in a book, might be the teeniest tiniest thing but there is always something. But Fighting Silence, nothing. That, if anything, bugs me so at least that's something.

I love how Till and Eliza both have their own lives, how they give as much as they take. None of them is bulldozing over the other one to get it their way but no one is putting their life on hold for the other either. They give and take and make it work with both interests in mind. There is so many book couples where one part is walked all over to then turn asshole and take it all, with Till and Eliza they give and take a little bit at a time. Believe me they do fight, not "one is right, one is wrong"-kind of fights, but those fight where both parts are right and the only way out is a compromise.

Their relationship, that is what I want. When I find someone to settle down with, that is what I want, that gorgeous, intricable dynamics they have, the way they know eachother inside and out making words unnecessary.

I cannot wait for Flint's book, I'm dying to get more of the page boys!

“I was okay. She was okay. We were okay. Nothing else matters.”

“Till always made things hard for me, but in some strange way, he always made them infinitely better as well.”

“I was at least a foot taller than she was and probably had her by almost a hundred pounds, but on the inside, she was the strong one”
