Humanity has colonized on the tidally locked planet Pendomus.

Residing between extreme heat and frigid cold is the complex known as the Helix. Within lies a highly sophisticated society functioning solely on humans fulfilling their life’s purpose as determined by their natural aptitudes and daily brain scans.

Seventeen-year-old Runa Cophem has found her calling studying the ancient trees nearby and anxiously awaits a professional placement which will allow her to continue her work.

Runa’s life takes an unforeseen turn when she’s brutally attacked and left for dead in those woods. Rescued by a stranger with blue hair, she’s immersed into a surprising way humanity has survived without the Helix. Fueled by a yearning to understand and an attraction she didn’t even know was possible, Runa tries to make a new life for herself. Yet, there’s much she doesn’t know about herself, about the planet, and the forces controlling her from afar.

What she needs are some answers.

I finished Pendomus in a freezing cabin in the middle of nowhere, seriously nowhere, all the while curled up on the couch under a huge pile of blankets wearing wool socks to keep somewhat warm. It didn't help. At least the book made the whole thing bearable!

My Thoughts:
The blurb and the cover of this book is absolutely gorgeous and jumped on the chance to be a part of this tour. Unfortunately it didn't reach my expectations.

The book was a bit fast paced at times and I felt like I missed some vital information on several occasions because suddenly I understood nada. Eventually I figured it out but I completely lost the connection to the characters and what was going on, and I never got it back.

I kinda liked Runa, she faced a ginormous change in her life and strange things she's never known was thrown her way. Like food. And sleep. Very strange, those things. She handled it rationally, like any good sci-fi heroine, and completely unnaturally compared to any other living being. Her moral compass But all in all, I kinda liked her.

Trae on the other hand, he was sweet to begin win and ended up completely ridiculous. I get that the Labot messed with their food hormones and when they got back to normal food the hormones ran haywire, but seriously, he's either in protection-mode or I-wanna-jump--your-bones-mode. There's nothing in between, mostly he's just in It's-hard-to-protect-you-when-I-just-want-to-throw-you-on-the-ground-mode. Ridiculous.

Kani and Phenton sounded like they had at least ten years on Runa and Trae so they were a bit out of place but I love those two. If Trae and Runa had their spunk, this book would have been awesome!

The writing and the whole sound of the book is a little bit too much middle grade for me to really appreciate it. Couple that with Traeton's sex drive and it makes for a weird mix.

In short, There's a whole lot of blushing about kissing and about sex. It feels like parts are missing. But it IS a good story and if you're in your tweensyounger teens and read it slow and careful enough I think you'll really enjoy it!
